Quick, Easy and Healthy February 24, 2009

Try this quick and easy (and healthy!) recipe in your crockpot or large stir fry pan.

Turkey Chili.

Add to crock pot:

1 pounds ground turkey breast

1 jar salsa (you determine the temperature)

1 packet of chili seasoning (look for low sodium options or natural alternatives)

3 cans of beans (your choice)-examples, kidney, pinto, cannellini beans

Set the crockpot to cook for at least six hours, stir if possible and break up any turkey chunks that form.

Serve with cheese, tortilla chips, and/or onions.

Enjoy!

Need an update? February 22, 2009

If you haven’t changed your look in a while, it is time for a makeover!

Most people do not dispose of their makeup as soon as they should.  See this handy article on disposal guidelines:

http://beauty.about.com/od/makeuptrickstips/a/shelflife.htm

Go through your makeup and throw away anything you don’t use, looks discolored, and has passed its useful life.  Then visit your local makeup store, such as Bare Essentials, or Sephora, and request a free make over.  Both stores are happy to assist you with picking out makeup, trying it out with their assistance, and there is no obligation to buy.

Lots of my customers ask me what my favorite products are so I am going to share!  Each month I will share a few products that I love to use.

This month, since I am chatting about taking care of yourself, I will tell you my favorite bath and body products.

1.  Kiehl’s Creme de Corps-the perfect weight body lotion to last all day, but not go on greasy

2.  Lush Shower Gel and Soaps-they always make me smile with their funky colors, scents and names.  They are also 100% natural.

3.  Stila eye compact-four shades that work great together and are easy to pack (These compacts come in lots of color combinations.)

Never Stop Learning February 17, 2009

Many people want to go back to school but just don’t have the time or money.  Start by investigating your local adult education offerings.  Many towns offer classes in everything from ballroom dance to Spanish.

These classes are often held at night, and don’t cost much.  They are a great way to keep your brain in shape, and expand your horizons.

Try out a class or two and determine what your interests are.  You can open a whole new world for yourself!

Take a Bath February 15, 2009

Need a quick, easy way to destress?  Take a bath!  You don’t even have to leave the comfort of your own home to indulge in this luxury.  Purchase some of your favorite bath products on your next trip out, and keep them on hand for a relaxing pick-me-up.

My favorite?  Bath bombs from Lush.  They are all natural, super fragrant, and come in really fun, unique shapes, colors and scents!

Better than Candy February 12, 2009

This Valentine’s Day skip the candy (and the guilt afterwards!) and sit down and really think about those you love.  Pick someone you haven’t had a chance to connect with in a little while and write them a letter telling them just what they mean to you.  Use some stationary you have or even use the back of a photo.  Send the letter to them (in the mail!) and wait for the thanks for roll in!

Glow this winter! February 10, 2009

If you spend tons of money on special lotions, stop.

Create your own lotion and make it uniquely you!

Purchase an inexpensive lotion from the drugstore and add some luminizer (sold at drugstores and super stores) to make your skin glow.  Then add some drops of essential oil.  Shake it up and store it in a place you will use it!

Mine is on my bedside table for morning and night moisturizing.

Food Journal February 8, 2009

Want to know why you can’t lose those last few pounds?  Its possible you are eating more than you think, sneaking food during the day, or drinking your calories.

Keep a food journal and write down EVERYTHING you eat and drink.  You will be surprised how quickly the calories add up and where you are adding extra unnecessary calories.

Writing down the food you eat also holds you accountable for the choices you make, and it is sometimes enough to prevent you from making the bad food choice in the first place!

Keep in mind:

An extra 3500 calories is a pound of fat gained.

A reduction of, or a workout that burns 3500 calories is a pound of fat lost.

With that in mind, eating 100 extra calories every day – 36,500 extra calories per year, can add up to 10 pounds of bodyweight.

Likewise, burning 100 extra calories per day can help you lose 10 pounds per year.

Workout Journal February 5, 2009

Feel like you keep working out, and are not making any progress?  Sometimes we are not being consistent in our workouts, skipping more days than we think, etc.

Purchase a beautiful journal, or specialized workout journal, and record your progress.  Write down your workout time, the time of day, the date, how you felt during and afterwards, and of course what you did!

If you are looking to gather more detailed information, purchase a heart rate monitor and write down the day’s details.  Many of these are very simple to use and include a calorie calculator.  Having a tangible number to correspond with the amount of effort you have exerted can be very motivating.
